Sage Method

The Sage Method is the finest high end extra fast action rod ever created. WCO knows that is high praise but we have used about every extra fast action rod that has been created over the last 20 years and to be frank haven't always been kind in our review of them. Sage's Konnetic technology changed all of that, WCO loves this fly rod.

Sage Method Fly Rod

WCO spends way to much time travelling and fishing, well at least we are told that. In that travel we know that we will encounter the need for a super fast action fly rod. The Sage Method is the first super fast action fly rod that the staff at WCO has categorially fell in love with. The staff as a whole owns many Sage Method fly rods and each one of us entend on owning more of them.

We will have to point out though that the Method is not right for all conditions. It creates very high lines speeds and the action of the Method should be applied to the right fishing conditions. The Method is also very fly line sensitive, what we mean by that is that it is important to match just the right fly line with the rod and the species and the conditions. That is a lot to consider we know but that is why you come to us. We are going to make this very simple!

WCO Recommended Fly Lines

We are admittedly tackle junkies but we are more specifically fly lines nerds. We understand that not all line work on all rods for all species or techniques. The Method is a fabulous rod but like a fine sports car it needs just the right gas. The obviuous thing to get out of the way is that the Method requires a heavier grain weight to load the rod at shorter close in distances. But it that does not mean that the rod does not handle the same grain weights at distance. One of the great misconceptions with rods is that casting ability is the deciding factor in choosing a rod. Nothing could be further from the truth. Choosing the right rod for the right technique and condition and then applying the correct line if the key.

We use the5, 6 and 7 weight rods for our warmwater Smallmouth fishing and in Chile as streamer rods. The perform equally well in both warmwater and freshwater situtions where bigger flies are needed. When fishing for Smallmouth with floating lines we prefer the Rio Outbound Short. It loads big wind resistent flies well at short distances. We use the 5 and 6 weight rods with Terrestrials for Trout and Smallmouth. In this case we prefer the Rio Grand with the new In-Touch core. The combination works well at diastance but the line still has enough weight to load it for shorter casts as well.
